Muncie, Ind. – Revelry Games successfully completed its crowdfunding campaign for ScoreBox21 yesterday by generating $24,057 in 33 days from 164 people all over the country. The funds raised will be used for the production of the first run of scoreboards that will hit the market.
“This is a tremendous start for us, and we can see we’ve generated a lot of excitement from people who are frustrated about losing track of the score when they play cornhole,” Revelry Games Co-founder and President Paul Dytmire said. “We can’t wait to get these scoreboards manufactured so our backers, and all cornhole players, can start enjoying them.”
ScoreBox21 is the world’s first portable, easy-to-see electronic scoreboard designed specifically for cornhole, but also works for any game played to 21. It uses 42 bright LEDs triggered by push-button controls to keep the score of the game. It also features drink holders that attach to either side and a phone or tablet slot up top for people to record or livestream their games.
American Cornhole League professionals AJ Sims and Josh Groce have used the scoreboard and helped with its design. They believe it will be a big hit with players of any skill level.
“It’s so easy to use, and there’s a simple pleasure in seeing the LEDs light up as you’re marking your score,” Groce said. “There’s nothing else like it out there.”
“I love the visibility,” Sims said. “You’re able to tell what the score actually is. This means you can focus more on making shots.”
Thanks to the Kickstarter campaign, Dytmire expects the first scoreboards to be available by the end of the year. Kickstarter is a Benefit Corporation that uses a crowdfunding platform to fulfill its corporate mission to “help bring creative projects to life.” People who pre-ordered ScoreBox21 on Kickstarter saved nearly 40 percent off the expected retail price of $179.
Anyone wishing to see the scoreboard in person will have opportunities to do that in the coming weeks:
- July 30 – Brews on the Boulevard in Carmel, Ind.
- August 20 – SausageFest in Indianapolis
- September 30 – Oktoberfest in Carmel, Ind.
Dytmire developed the original concept for ScoreBox21 more than a decade ago, but it’s taken all this time to get it to full developed for mass production. A video about his long journey can be found here.
