ScoreBox21 completes successful Kickstarter campaign
September 15, 2022Winning team receives $2,000 and ScoreBox21 scoreboard
Indianapolis, Ind. – Registration is now open for the Indiana State Fair’s newest competition: cornhole. The contest is open to two-person teams of any skill level and is expected to draw seasoned players from around the region. The winning team will receive $2,000 and a ScoreBox21 electronic scoreboard. The second- and third-place teams will receive $1,500 and $500, respectively.
As many as 64 teams can register for the double-elimination tournament, which will take place Saturday, July 29 in the Purdue Extension Building Auditorium beginning at 1 p.m. The registration fee is $100 per team and includes two fair admissions and a one-day parking voucher – a $48 value. Complete rules and registration information can be found at indianastatefair.com/p/state-fair/competitions–contests/competitive-events.
“Cornhole has become one of Indiana’s most popular backyard activities and has also taken off as a professional sport, so we thought this would be great fun for both participants and spectators,” Indiana State Fair Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Anna Whelchel said. “This is a doubles-only tournament, but we hope to make it an annual event and add a singles tournament in the future.”
The fair has partnered with local company Revelry Games to manage the competition. Revelry Games has just launched ScoreBox21, the first mass-produced, portable electronic scoreboard for cornhole and other games played to 21. All competitors will keep score with the scoreboards stationed at each court.
“I’m a lifelong Hoosier and I’m incredibly proud to be part of the great Indiana State Fair where people will use our one-of-a-kind scoreboards,” Revelry Games President Paul Dytmire said. “It’s taken me several years to get ScoreBox21 developed and available to the public, so this is a really exciting moment personally.”
ScoreBox21 uses simple push-button controls for the 42 LEDs that keep competitors and spectators alike aware of the score at all times. The lights are easily visible in daylight or at night and will keep anyone from wondering what the score is, a very common problem for cornhole players.
“We’ve done a lot of research and shown our scoreboard to hundreds of people all over the country, and people seem to love it,” Dytmire said. “For anyone who’s ever lost track of their score, I can relate. I made this for you.”
Photos and videos of the scoreboard in use can be found at scorebox21.com. Fairgoers will also be able to purchase a scoreboard on site at a discounted price.
