Local scores award for cornhole invention
April 8, 2021ScoreBox21 to debut in Carmel, Ind. July 30
July 27, 2022“I’ve been working on this product for literally 10 years, and this Kickstarter campaign is an important event to be able to finally bring this product to market,” Dytmire said. “It’s hard to put into words what a successful campaign would mean to our fledgling company and to me personally.”
Kickstarter is a Benefit Corporation that uses a crowdfunding platform to fulfill its corporate mission to “help bring creative projects to life.” The platform has an “all or none” structure where people seeking funding for a project set their own crowdfunding goals over a finite period of time, usually 30-90 days. If they reach their goal, they receive all the funding raised for that project and then fulfill product promises to their backers. If they don’t reach their goal, no money exchanges hands.
Dytmire and Klotz are hoping to raise at least $20,000 to help with the high start-up costs of producing ScoreBox21, which is the world’s first portable, easy-to-see electronic scoreboard designed specifically for the popular game of cornhole. The scoreboard uses 42 bright LEDstriggered by push-button controls to keep the score of the game.
“We believe this scoreboard will help all cornhole players enjoy the game a lot more,” Klotz said. “It solves the problem of forgetting the score of the game, which happens a lot, and offers other benefits like a convenient place to hold your beverage and livestream or record your game with your smartphone.”
ScoreBox21 has drink holders that attach to either side of the scoreboard and slots at the top to hold cell phones securely. When it’s not being used, the scoreboard easily folds down for storage inside a standard-size cornhole board. It stands about 56 inches tall, folds down to about 36 inches and weighs about 10 pounds. Its base can be staked down into the ground or rest evenly on any kind of hard surface.
“I’ve played in and run a lot of cornhole tournaments over the years and there is nothing else like this,” Dytmire said. “I kept waiting for some big company to make something like this, but they never did, so I made one myself.”
ScoreBox21 evolved from several of Dytmire’s previous homemade prototypes, one of which won the gold medal at INPEX, the country’s largest invention trade show. Once in production, ScoreBox21 will be available for purchase online at ScoreBox21.com and other online specialty stores and retailers.
